Sustainable Development

JFS Energy’s core business evolves around sustainable development. We continuously work to integrate all of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals into core business strategy and development.

At JFS, we are very conscious that the economically marginalized people of the world require affordable energy as an integral part of their sustainable development path. Expensive and intermittent renewables simply cannot get the job done by themselves. Instead, cheaper and cleaner fueled alternatives are the practical solution. In fact, cheap energy is a sine qua non prerequisite towards sustainable development.
In many of these fuel solutions, a certain amount of environmental remediation is justified. Here we refer to carbon offsets for starters, moving up to a more “hands-on” structured GHG sequestration agenda.
After our oceans, our forests act as the biggest filter or carbon sink to our increasing GHG footprint. That is precisely why, we must strive to protect current forests, while encouraging reforestation and afforestation efforts.
Insofar, our efforts have been focused on:
1 Abating free methane by re-energizing recyclables and WTE projects in a responsible manner, thereby reducing natural habitat clearance for landfill use.
2 Sponsoring a R&D program regarding a renewable/residual fuel blending with palm waste and biomass in Central America, reducing tree felling.
3 Structuring an éco-synergy platform to wean Haitians off toxic wood charcoal, by leveraging the electricity demand and channeling it towards LPG economies of scale yet devoid of costly government subsidies.
4 Developing a 500 MW net zero (Y+20) power generation project in the Dominican Republic. While deploying an afforestation carbon-sink project, JFS is also structuring an incremental hydrogen blended LNG fuel to an efficient CCGT H-class turbine, thereby becoming the first Caribbean direct net zero large-scale power generation, with a 24/7/365 resiliency.
At JFS, while we believe that it is critically important to reduce our overall carbon footprint, we also believe it is just as important to empower the less fortunate to access cheap and transformative energy. We have dubbed our regional energy philosophy as the “democratization” of energy. Everyone is entitled to it.
We understand that energy is currently undergoing a fundamental transition period. Hopefully in the future, we will enter an age of forever clean and cheap energy for all, as suggested by nuclear fusion. Until then, we must stay focused and implement the most responsible, balanced and intelligent energy solutions that best impact the three pillars of sustainable development, known as the three “P”: People, Profit, and Planet.
